Amazon Advertising Find, attract, and engage customers. I could not put this book down. Gril is the daughter of a Gladiator and as such is expected to become a Glad- wife. The whole glad culture had a religious feel to it with all its laws and rules that have to be obeyed or you I liked this book in the beginning but by the end it was a sinking ship. Haines did some very, very lazy world building. However, I simply could not buy into the Gladiator “Glad” culture and its inherent lack of respect for life.

Dummy never considered this possibility, even though if any man except her father ever touches it she’ll have to marry him. This book just speaks to me on multiple levels. Also, the constant pop culture references Skype, Scarlet Johansson, etc combined with the gladiator fighting didn’t make me think of Girl in the Arena as probable.

Despite being about violence, this book had very little action. Encourage them to be themselves, to be proud of who they are. Encourage them to think for themselves, teach them self-reliance.

I can’t even remember when I bought my paperback copy of Girl in the Arena. The rules help the family survive, but rules—and the GSA—can also turn against you.
